Trip home

Help send one of Sudan’s Lost Boys Home

I am a junior majoring in Community Services at Saint Martin’s University and I have the opportunity to do a service internship with my people in Africa this summer. My plan for the summer is to visit Kenya and Sudan. It is my objective to go back home because the people in Sudan lack education and I believe I can be of great help for my people. It is my goal to help them using some of the skills and knowledge I have learned here. It will be a humbling experience to work with orphan children and to see my mother, brother, and sister whom I have not seen for seventeen years. The Saint Martin’s community has already helped me raise enough funds to pay for tuition and airfare. I am asking for any donation you can give to help with my travel expenses. Your kindness and generosity is appreciated.

Africa to me
Is ethnic culture and history
Being black as you can see
Is something I’m proud to be
I come from Sudan
Forever holding my dignity
Knowing that in time
Going back to you is my destiny

(poem from a Sudanese immigrant’s blog)
